Welcome to the Newburg Community Garden
Nestled in the heart of Preston County, West Virginia, the Newburg Community Garden stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, dedication, and a shared passion for growing fresh, local food. Established in 2024, this vibrant space quickly became a source of pride and inspiration for our community.
The garden played a pivotal role in leading our town to victory in the Grow This! Throwdown, a statewide gardening challenge that showcased our commitment to sustainability, collaboration, and healthy living. Together, we cultivated not just fruits and vegetables, but also a stronger sense of community and purpose. The Newburg Community Garden is more than just a place to grow food—it's where neighbors become friends, knowledge is shared, and dreams of a healthier future come to life. Whether you're here to dig in the soil, learn new gardening techniques, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature, we welcome you to be a part of this growing legacy. Masontown Community Garden / Preston County Youth Center Garden
New Beginnings for Masontown: A Community Garden to Grow and Thrive
This year marks a fresh chapter for Preston County, as the seeds of change are planted in Masontown. Thanks to the $10,000 grant won through the Grow This WV Garden Challenge, our community will soon welcome the Masontown Community Garden and Preston County Youth Center Garden—a vibrant hub of learning, growth, and togetherness. The garden will be much more than rows of vegetables and flowers. It will be a space where families, friends, and neighbors come together to connect with nature and one another. From teaching the art of growing food to inspiring young people to explore their potential, the project aims to foster a love for gardening while addressing the unique needs of our rural community. For the Preston County Youth Center, this garden will be a hands-on classroom—a place where kids can dig into the soil, marvel at the miracle of a sprouting seed, and learn life lessons about patience, responsibility, and teamwork. Youth programming will tie in gardening with nutrition education, encouraging children to make healthier food choices and develop lifelong skills. The heart of this initiative lies in the Masontown Community Garden. This shared space will give residents of all ages the opportunity to grow fresh produce, learn sustainable gardening techniques, and build a sense of pride in their contributions. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or planting your first seed, there will be something for everyone. Of course, this dream could not have been realized without the Grow This WV Garden Challenge. Winning the grant was no small feat—Preston County’s passion, dedication, and competitive spirit were clear as we came together to showcase the best of what we have to offer. But winning was just the beginning. Now, as we break ground, our community’s collective energy and commitment will ensure this garden blossoms into something extraordinary. Plans are already in motion to install raised beds, pathways, a children’s garden area, and spaces for community workshops. The Masontown Community Garden and Preston County Youth Center Garden are not just about growing vegetables—they’re about growing community. They will serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together and dream big. As we roll up our sleeves and prepare to get our hands dirty, we’re reminded that the most beautiful gardens are grown with more than soil and sunlight—they’re grown with heart. Preston County, get ready to dig in and watch something wonderful take root. Here’s to a season of growth, connection, and new beginnings! |
